Neko Case is an American alternative country singer-songwriter, best known for her solo career and her contributions as a member of the Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers.

She is protective of her artistic independence, combining punk's do it yourself ethic, a strong business sense, and clear opinions about her artistic goals. She has spurned offers from major record labels because they don't offer her enough control of her music, remaining affiliated with Mint Records in Canada and Bloodshot and ANTI- in the United States.

"Where the Wild Things Are" Movie Trailer

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is one of those truly rare books that can be enjoyed equally by a child and a grown-up. If you disagree, then it's been too long since you've attended a wild rumpus. Max dons his wolf suit in pursuit of some mischief and gets sent to bed without supper. Fortuitously, a forest grows in his room, allowing his wild rampage to continue unimpaired. Sendak's color illustrations (perhaps his finest) are beautiful, and each turn of the page brings the discovery of a new wonder.

43rd Annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival

Evening events 6 p.m.

The Festival is held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th Streets, near the Smithsonian museums. There is no admission charge. Visitors should dress for hot and humid weather. Parking around the Mall is extremely limited, so visitors are advised to use Metrorail. The Smithsonian station (Mall exit) is at the Festival site. Federal Triangle and National Archives stations are close by. During the Festival, call 202.633.7484 to hear a recorded description of daily events. Via San Gregorio Armeno, Street of Nativity Workshops in Naples, Italy

Via San Gregorio Armeno, in the heart of Naples' old town, is often called the street of nativity workshops. Lining the narrow pedestrian street are artisan workshops making nativity scenes (presepe in Italian) and terra cotta figures. Tiny shops sell Christmas crib figures and souvenirs, with items ranging from very high quality to inexpensive.

Folk Art Patterns by Heidi England

Heidi England literally had a hobby turn into a career. Her early training took place at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. It was later she met and studied with Jo Sonja Jansen in Conroe, Texas. Heidi relates, "It was here that Jo Sonja introduced Folk Art into my life -- and I fell in love with the art form and its history.

This was 25 years ago! Jo has been my teacher ever since. This I've learned -- the more you study and learn, the more you realize how much MORE there is to learn! Learning is one of the true joys in my life." Heidi has also studied in Germany and at Vesterheim in Decorah, Iowa.

Paul Boyer Museum of Animated Carvings

The Boyer Gallery, officially known as the Paul Boyer Museum of Animated Carvings, is a folk art museum located at 1205 M Street in Belleville, Kansas featuring the animated sculptures of Paul Boyer. Many of the displays are hand carved wooden pieces that have been animated with hand-built motors and mechanics, while others are working models of aircraft or tractor engines. All of the pieces are built from scratch.

Raw Vision was first published in 1989 with the express purpose of bringing the phenomena of Outsider Art to a wide public. The first edition of Raw Vision presented works known to just a handful of people around the world. Raw Vision has since continued to feature new discoveries of Outsider artists and unknown places such as sculpture gardens and extraordinary self-made buildings.
