"Strange Folk" an indie arts and crafts festival

Where: Community Park, O'Fallon, IL

A festival of social significance.
A craft happening in psychedelic color.


Strange Folk is the Heartland's largest outdoor indie arts and crafts show. Over 10,000 folks attended their 2008 event, which featured 120 modern makers from across the country, along with plenty of eco-freindly craft activities, exhibits, live bands, and local cuisine under a canopy of beautiful trees!

Apple Dolls are folk dolls originating from early rural America when settlers made dolls from whatever was at hand. Apple dolls are made by carving a face in an apple and drying it. Due to the different effects drying produces, no two dolls are alike.

"Folk Art Exhibition" at Birminingham Museum, Alabama

Throughout 2009, the Museum is devoting its Arrington gallery to the exhibition of folk art. Objects on display are from the Museum’s permanent collection, augmented by an occasional private collection loan. The term "folk art" is used broadly to encompass work that has been variously labeled as outsider, naïve, primitive, visionary and self-taught. All of the artists represented are American – many African-American – and most are from the Southeast.

"Werewolf Among Us"

This film is about a family curse that turns one family member into a werewolf. There is 5 million dollars to go to the person who kills the werewolf. This is the American Folk Art Museum's first one person exhibition highlighting the work of a contemporary quilt artist. Paula Nadelstern has achieved international recognition for her innovative and complex designs inspired by the bilateral symmetry of kaleidoscopic images. Her artistic vision encompasses science, history, and tradition, expressed in crystalline patterns composed of slivers of jewel-like fabrics.

What do you do when your husband drinks a lot of beer? A LOT of beer (ok, and you too.) You get crafty! The above 2′ x 1′ ft box of beer bottle caps sits in our garage, right next to the fridge, right under the bottle opener. As it filled for the first time (at a pretty rapid rate) I noticed how pretty they really were in numbers, all the different colors and logos. Being the crafty bugger I am, I just knew there was something we could do with them…
