Through a variety of emotions and expressions, lines and patterns of the backgound, the portraits of Birgitta Sundstrom Jansdotter appear as central to any composition.

The figures seem isolated and removed from their original context, as characters set to play their predefined roles. Making an obvious allusion to the movement of Pop-art, these portraits are taken away from images of the modern culture. Set at each time in different situations, the women looking down from the paintings make a distant referece to the modern way of publicity and advertisement through the use of the female icon, – idealized and beautified. Thereby, the familiar images of popular culture are being translated into the language of painting.

Bay Area artist Sergio Lopez "Painted Roses"

Sergio artfully merges the figure in and out of the background playing with patterns of the femininity and delicacy of roses, with the dark, urban hint of floral tattoos and piercings all loosely played around the soft delicate translucence of the female figure.

"Painted Roses" demonstrates how our real and perfect beauty is usually not visible or exposed; it is often covered by external facade dictated by the culture we live in, some of which is not easily removed or separated from one's true self. here are some more photos from this series:

Lucian Freud is one of my most favorite painters. His work is nothing less than amazing, and captures the attention of the viewer and holds them in a silent moment filled with emotion and depth. I just could not resist posting some of his paintings here. If you are unfamiliar with Freud then it's time to discover one of the best painters of our time.

Freud is considered the foremost figurative painter working in the European tradition in the last half century. He lives and works in London. Born in Berlin in 1922, his father was the youngest son of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. He moved to England with his family in 1933 and became a naturalised British citizen in 1939.

Creative Response to Crisis: Behance Turkey Poster Exhibition

Van, Turkey, has been hit by consecutive earthquakes during the last month.
Many people died, and thousands are suffering with the consequences.

Here are a few examples of the posters you can purchase to help Turkey

The Behance Ambassador in Istanbul wanted to find a way for creatives to help those impacted, so he enlisted his community to create this poster exhibition, whose proceeds go to relief funds.

I think it's nice that artists can get together and do a project like this. The paintings and illustrations look great, and I was thrilled to be able to contribute.
