Etsy How-Tuesday videos
1. Embellished Frames with Kayte Terry Do you know those various piles of artwork and photographs that you wish you had frames for? Or those various things you've collected that are tacked to your wall that kind of make your bedroom or living room wall look like a tattered scrapbook? Why not spice up your home decor with an embellished mat in a frame or a custom fabric frame from scratch? This week Kayte Terry of this is love forever shows us what to do!
2. Favor Bags with Brooklyn Bride While a drawstring favor bag is a simple project, the idea behind it is big: fabric is an excellent way to add a personal touch to your special event! Whether you're planning a wedding, birthday party, or baby shower, think fabric for a unique — and inexpensive! — splash of color. The wrapping becomes part of the gift: a reusable bag is an eco-friendly alternative to wrapping paper. Your guests would never chuck your cute handmade bag into the trash, right? Vane Broussard of Brooklyn Bride Blog (and bklynpillow right here on Etsy) joins us to share this design she developed while planning her own wedding. Her frustration at the lack of modern and affordable wedding decor options led her to become very creative — and got her started blogging! She's been going full speed ever since.
3. Kirigami with the Craft ROBO The Craft ROBO is a machine that lets you cut and score paper with precision and repetition. This is really handy if you're into scrapbooking or want to make shipping boxes, envelopes or promos for your Etsy shop. Perhaps you want to take it to the next level to create unique paper sculptures, pop-up books or custom vinyl stickers. Using the machine is like hooking up a printer to your computer, but instead of printing ink, the Craft ROBO has a tiny little sharp knife that it can control and move around to cut through or just slightly graze paper. Jeff Rutzky has been creating incredible kirigami (origami with cuts) with the Craft ROBO. He joined us at Etsy Labs to give us a tutorial on this wonderful bread-box sized machine. To make the kirigami box in the video, you'll need to have Adobe Illustrator (AI) on your computer and you'll have to install the AI plugin. You can also use the software that comes with the Craft ROBO, but this project involves a few different type of cuts which is best done on AI.
4. Weekly Planner with Julie Schneider aka yoursecretadmiral This week, Etsy How-Tuesday helps you get organized for the New Year with Etsy admin Julie aka YourSecretAdmiral / julieincharge. Julie shows you how to make a weekly planner, which you can give as a handmade stocking stuffer or keep for all that organizing you'll be doing in the New Year.
5. Felt Garlands with littleloveblue This week, Etsy How-Tuesday presents Cary Walker aka littleloveblue. Cary shows us how to make a holly leaf and berry garland out of felt. This simple but elegant project makes a great gift or a holiday decorating project to do with family and friends.
6. Porcelain Ornaments Holiday Decor with Virginia Griswold This week, Etsy How-Tuesday presents Virginia Griswold. Today we're going to learn how to make ornaments out of teacups, or any kind of small porcelain object you can find or recycle. Hang them on your tree!
7. Snowflake Gift Wrap with the NewNew Team This week, Etsy How-Tuesday presents Kari aka ikyoto and Stella aka lookcloselypress of The {NewNew} York Team. Today we're going to learn how to screenprint our own snowflake gift wrap for the holidays. Kari and Stella remind us that recycling paper bags is a great source for materials for this kind of project.
8. Holiday Table Decor with Kristen Couse aka cakehouse Kristen Couse aka cakehouse joins us this week to show us how to make a patchwork trivet for your table. You can spice up your home decor, whether you're hosting Thanksgiving or a potluck with friends!
9. Spooky Shadow Puppets by Crankbunny This week on Etsy How-Tuesday, Norma AKA crankbunny shows us how to make spooky shadow puppets for Hallow's Eve! MAUHAHAH! crankbunny, a talented animator and artist, often works with layers of paper in her projects. Check out this animation she made for Etsy about robots. Today's project is about dead guys and cemeteries! crankbunny has provided the templates for making her signature Gravestone Shadow Puppet and Dead Guy Shadow Puppet. You can use these templates, or come up with your own designs — either way you will most certainly have your own spooky Halloween shadow show.
10. Bleeding Vampire Cupcakes Welcome to Etsy How-Tuesday. This week, in preparation for Halloween, we bring you Alicia and Tracy of Sweet Tooth of the Tiger who show us how to make Bleeding Vampire Cupcakes!
11. Knit a Postcard with Knitknit July's live How-To Month was a smashing success! While we had some Etsy royalty here at the labs we took the opportunity to make videos with them. In this second video, the lovely Nguyen Le, aka Knitknit teaches how to make knitted post cards. If you are teaching yourself how to knit, you will love this video. This is also a great way to use your knitted test swatches to make a special something to send to someone!
12. Fizzy Bath Salts with Sudzi and the Etsy Labs During the month of July, Etsy Labs hosted a how-to every day and we took the opportunity to make videos too. In this first video, the lovely Mary Helen of Sudzi.etsy.com teaches how to make persimmon fizz bath salts, which is a fun project to do with kids by the way (comes in handy with science fair projects too!).
