Textile Folk Artist Susan Sorrell

12 02 09 - 11:22 Susan Sorrell is a fiber and textile artist. She refers to herself as "a Southern Fried Fiber artist". She enjoys creating funky colorful art. She works with mixed media and fiber art with painting thrown in for fun. She currently has a studios in Greenville SC, called " Creative Chick Studios". Along with creating art she also teaches online fiber art classes and has a newsletter to keep folks up-to-date on when and where. Sorrell hopes to put the fun back in her art this year. She states:

"This year I have adopted a theme for the year and not a list of resolutions. This year's theme is "Experimentation". I want to experiment with new art materials, techniques and ways to market my work and online classes. I have had tunnel vision about making money and selling my work, that I am losing the "fun" aspect of my job. This year I will focus on making art and let the marketing part of the process, fall in line with the art making. I have been getting overwhelmed at finding ways to sell my work, that it has paralized my creative self. So, I hope you are looking at 2009 in a new light and seeing all the new ways to become a creative person."

This is how Sorrell sums up her art:
* With a needle and thread I will turn the art world on its ear.
* I raise abandon beads that people have discarded in thrift stores.
* I color outside the lines….and do it with permanent markers.
* I like the color red, because it is obnoxious, vibrant and loud.
* Fiber art is not something you eat for breakfast…you hang it on your wall.
* I am inspired by lots of artists and creative people…living and dead.
* I pull my ideas out of the air like a magician.
* I have a college degree in Visual Arts, so that makes me know less about how not to save money.
* All my clothes are from Old Navy and have paint stains on them.
* I am an artist…..watch me paint the world clueless.
